#1 Professional Organizer Secret

To Staying Organized . . .

Develop a transition zone

If you’re wondering where to start when organizing your home, developing a Transition zone is a great first step. This will give you an area to store school bags, purses, school papers, work bags, lunch totes and even overflowing amount of shoes that are scattered around your home.

Each family member can have their own space in this entryway to store their own personal belongings. Everyone will be able to drop their bags on the way in and scoop them up easily on the way out. This is perfect for bulky coats and sports equipment as well.

The end goal of this area is to install a habit with your family, by leaving these likely clutter items in this transition zone! In larger homes I have created Transition Zones on each floor – again each family is responsible for their own belongings.

I Have News For You . . .

If you’re finding yourself “doing it all” alone, you don’t have to – Reach out for help.

It’s so easy to get in the mindset of checking items off that never ending To-Do list.

Breaking things down into smaller tasks will make it easier to accept and accomplish what needs to get done.

Please release that unrealistic expectation you have of yourself. You are not perfect, you never will be and honestly who the hell wants to be?

There is no such thing as a perfectly balanced life because your life is unique. Having Balance in life may mean something totally different for you then it does to someone else. Rather than a perfectly balanced life, begin to strive for a life that leaves you happy and healthy at the end of the day.

Stop trying to “do it all”. Spend your valuable time on things that matter the most to you!

If that means you sleep in every morning and workout later. Nothing wrong with that!

If that means you start work at 11:00 am. Awesome!

If that means you don’t clean and organize your house and you hire somebody else to do it. Even better!

Ask for help. Create a life that supports your strengths and encourages you to ask for help in the areas that you struggle.

I promise you that if you begin to make decisions based on what makes you happy, your life will transform dramatically. Your time is so precious, don’t waste it doing things that bring you down and no joy.

Fast 5 Friday

fast_five_logoA Clean & Tidy space is only a few mini projects away. Here are 5 fast tips for helping you keep your space sparkling and organized.

  1. Dishwasher is not just for dishes: Go around the house and collect the toys, soap dishes, car cup holders, sponges, pet dishes, dish racks. Put them all in the dishwasher and send them through a clean cycle.
  2. Wear The Glove Around The House: I have an extra pair of rubber gloves (label them) that I wear around house to wipe down furniture, pillows, blankets, lamp shades, stuffed animals, baseboards, door trims, small area rugs, and table clothes to get crumbs off.
  3. Gather up your wagon partner: Grab a wagon and wheel around to every room to pick up the belongings that need to be placed back to their home.
  4. Hang Coats: Hang all the coats laying around the house, and straighten up the shoes and boots by your entry door.
  5. Make The Bed: It will be your first task of the day, it will give you a small sense of pride, and it will encourage you to do another task and then another task. It’s a reminder that the little things do matter.
