Minimalism vs. Maximalism

There has always been a push and pull between the both . . .

Minimalist design is about prioritizing the essentials. A minimalist building, object, or interior design is stripped of its core functionality.

It is realized using limited materials, neutral colors, simple forms, and avoiding excess ornamentation to achieve a pure form of elegance.

While the final expression of a minimalist design might appear effortlessly simple, as spare as a poem, and as clear as a bell, achieving this kind of powerful simplicity is anything but easy.

It takes purposeful decision-making to bring it all together.

Maximalism design is popular among younger generations, particularly millennials, who were eager to incorporate plants, mixed colors, and other accessories into their spaces.

Maximalism became a way to define an eclectic home with a chaotic array of colors, prints, objects, and textures in a single space.

Maximalism is the art of more-is-more; layered patterning, highly saturated colors, ample accessories and artwork hung “salon-style”, and a real sense of playfulness and bold gestures.

Maximalism is all about going big, or going home!

Spruce up your home with these easy redesign ideas

Happy Friday!

Okay, it’s going to be snowing here in the Northeast this weekend . . .

What a great way to spend a snowy day than to think about redesigning that bedroom down the hall that was once your son’s bedroom… he’s now living in his own home. You have been daydreaming about having a space where you can do some sewing, crafts or, just read a book or journal.

During the weekend, go through your home design magazines – as you go through them once you’re done toss them out. Take all your clippings and put into a folder – during the next few weeks of winter use the clippings as inspiration to draw up a redesign plan for that bedroom.

If you need assistance to help you put it all together, call us we’re here to help make ๐’š๐’๐’–๐’“ ๐’”๐’‘๐’‚๐’„๐’† ๐’Ž๐’‚๐’•๐’•๐’†๐’“.

Are you in need of some lightness during these dark cold days of winter?

Here are 5ย Grace Notes to help bring clarity and lightness into your home~

Grace Notes:

1. Accessorize – it’s what separates us all!home assessories

Be smart about accessories. Accent pillows in a bold color or pattern, a bright-colored or white throw blanket and colorful fixtures will brighten up an otherwise dull room during the winter. For example, the palette of Mauve and Copper is a wonderful way to add lightness & brightness to your home in the winter months.

2. Don’t let your Rugs just lay there!

area rug 3Does your area rug make the room brighter? If you have a dark rug, thereโ€™s a good chance it makes the room a little too dark in the winter. Try changing it out with a lighter area rug for the season or just remove it for a few months to let your shiny hardwoods reflect natural light.

3. Declutter . . . and Discover!

declutter home 2Clutter can make a room look smaller and even darker than it should be. This winter, take just 10 minutes a day to declutter an area at a time to stay organized.

4. Create brightness with Fresh Flowers

fresh flowers 3Fresh flowers add a pop of color and life to an otherwise dark and dull space. Brighten up your living room this winter with a vase of bright flowers and use a colorful arrangement to bring a fresh look to a kitchen or bathroom. Purchase bouquets of store bought flowers and let your light shine through the home!

5. Use Mirrors . . . in the right places!
